I am very happy to present the Annual Report of Vijayagiri Public School 2010-2011.
This academic year started on 1st June with a PTA General Body Meeting and classes began on 2nd June with a prayer session 

Students, faculty and staff

We have 2197 students on roll now, of which 1175 are boys and 1022 are girls. We have 134 teaching staff and 21 non-teaching staff. We maintain a teacher-student ratio of 1:16 which is one of the main anchorages of the school. We have trained our teachers to be sensitive to the needs of the students and handle them with utmost care and concern. An atmosphere of guided freedom is fostered in the school campus round the clock. 

Results of CBSE Exams

23 Students appeared for class X exam. 14 students secured 9 point grades. This year we are presenting all the 52 students of Xth standard for the CBSE Board based examination. 

Starting of XI Standard

The first batch of XI Std started on 14th June 2010. There are three streams of studies. 1st stream - Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, 2nd stream – Physics, Chemistry Mathematics, Computer Science, 3rd stream – Accountancy, Economics, Business studies, Mathematics or Computer Science. There are 295 students studying in class XI.
Induction ceremony was held on 26th June. Our Director Prof. P C Thomas Sir inducted the newly elected school leaders. 

Cultural Programme

The cultural programme of the academic year 2010-11 was inaugurated on 13th August 2010 by Jayaraj Warrier, the caricaturist. The school has arranged a lot of opportunities to entertain the students in the presence of eminent personalities on different occasions. Science and mathematics clubs were inaugurated by Mr. T.R. Sreejith a creative theatre artist who encouraged students to learn more during school days. Social club was inaugurated by Mr. M.P. Surendran, the Deputy chief Editor of Mathrubhumi. Onam celebrations were enriched by the presence of play back singer Franco who entertained students with film songs. Mr. Pradeep Somasundharam,the winner of “Meri Awaz Zuno” also came for the samanwayam of classes VIth to Xth. Language club was inaugurated by Smt. Nalini Chandran, founder of Harisree Vidhyaniketan. 
Onam celebration was on 13.08.2010. The whole school enjoyed the musical treat given by Franco, the famous play back singer. Pookkalam competition was conducted house wise and payasam was distributed to every student.

Samanwayam, the programme conducted by the students was performed in four phases first KG section, second LP section, third UP and high school and the fourth, Plus one respectively on different days. These were full day programme where parents also were invited to enjoy. The variety programme was well appreciated by the parents. 

Christmas was celebrated section wise. In connection with X’mas, competitions of Christmas card making and carol song were conducted. The cultural programme conveyed the message of X’mas.

The different competitions were conducted according to the school calendar. Inter house debate competition was conducted on 17th July 2010. The result was announced on the same day. 

Inter house English recitation and essay writing competitions were conducted on 24.07.2010. All the competitions were held in four categories. 

Category 1 - Classes 1 & II

 

Category 2 - Classes III, IV & V

 

Category 3 - Classes VI, VII, & VIII

 

Category 4 - Classes IX, X, & XI

 

The result was announced on the same day.

 

On 31.07.2010 inter house Malayalam recitation and essay writing competitions were held following the same rules and regulations. 

On 7th August 2010, inter house quiz competition, Hindi recitation and Hindi essay writing competitions were conducted in different venues. 

In connection with the Independence Day celebrations inter house patriotic songs and tableau competitions were conducted on 13.08.2010.Folk dance and Bharatnatyam competitions were on 09.09.2010. 

On Gandhi Jayanthi day classical music competition was held. Inter house light music competition was held on 23.10.2010. Extempore (English) was conducted on 13.11.2010 for categories IV & V. 

Hindi elocution competition was held on 13.12.2010 for category 4 (classes 8,9,10) on 14th December 2010.Versification competitions in all the three languages were conducted. 

All the winners were awarded certificates and mementos. 

Spiritual Reformation Programme

Spiritual reformation programme was held in 3 different venues in the school campus. Christian session was led by Prof. P C Thomas Sir, Hindu session by Shri. T K Parasuraman and Muslim session by Mr. Anees Rahman.

Everybody appreciated the programme.

Adolescence Education Programme.

Adolescence Education programme was conducted on 3 phases in order to equip them to meet the future challenges. Resource person was Dr. Janaki Sankaran. 

Sports Programme

We have 200 m Athletic track, Football ground, Volley ball court, Tennis court, Indoor stadium for basket ball and table tennis court Our students went to participate in Sahodaya Athletic Meet conducted on Nov 21, 22, and 23 at Christ College Irinjalakuda.

Alveena Jeason – 1st Prize in Junior Girls Long jump, 3rd prize in 100 m and 3rd prize in 4 x 400 m relay
Rithika Thomas – 3rd prize in kiddies girls Long jump
Aldin Roy – 2nd prize in kiddies boys shot put
Soniya M S – 3rd prize in junior girls 200 m and 3rd prize in 4 x 400 m relay
Helen Jose – 3rd prize in junior girls 4 x 400 relay
Archana K Luye - 3rd prize in juniors girls 4 x 400 m relay
Annual school athletic meet was conducted on 21st Jan 2011. Mr. C R Santhosh Circle Inspector of Police, Mala was the Chief guest.

Continous and Comprehensive Evaluation

CBSE has introduced CCE in class IX from 2009-10. We conducted parents’ meetings to outline the new scheme and its merits and implications. The students’ performance will be assessed continuously. The Achievement Record will show only the grades in place of numerical marks. Four formative tests and two summative tests are held.
Weekly tests (Monday tests) also enhance the learning and evaluation process.
A CCE lab was inaugurated by our Director Prof. P C Thomas sir.

Library facilities

We have a vast library, with a stock of 11450 books. We subscribe to multiple copies of all major newspapers, magazines and journals. Library plays a pivotal role in the life of the school and it has a decisive impact on the students and teachers of the school.

Awards are distributed to the students who read the maximum number of books.

Extra Curricular activities

Extra curricular activities like key board, violin, guitar, karate, clay modelling, chess, aero sports, organ, orientation programmes in IIT, National talent search examinations and IAS coaching are conducted without levying any fees. These enable the students to chalk out their career.

Scholarships and concessions

As part of our social responsibility, we have been offering scholarships and fee concessions to those from financially handicapped families.
The staff and students are contributing in the social commitment box which is planned to construct a new house for the financially downtrodden family.

Prospective Plans

Inauguration of the newly built separate blocks of Lower Primary and Senior Secondary will be done by the reopening day of the next academic year.

Staff quarters and family quarters are getting ready.

We are intending to host inter school volley ball, basket ball, tennis, hand ball and foot ball tournaments by the next academic year. 

Ever rolling trophies will be instituted for these tournaments. 

Video-conferencing system will be installed in the institution to enable the students to interact with experts, resource persons, eminent and profound personalities.

Bridge course for the new students and vacation enrichment programmes will be held to facilitate the students for the next academic year. 

Acknowledgements

The year 2010-11 witnessed a lot of progress, development and achievements of the institution.

We are grateful to our Director Prof. P C Thomas sir for the valuable advices, unerring guidance and all the more the parental affection shown to each and every one of us.

All the teaching and non-teaching staff do their level best to uphold the duties and responsibilities assigned to them.

Our beloved students also contributed well with their discipline and loyalty to studies.

Our Director Prof. P C Thomas sir always concludes most of his messages with the words To God be the Glory, Great things He has done. We cannot improve upon such a clear expression of man’s submission to God’s will and leading.

Let us bow in gratitude for all that the Lord has done for us.
